Simple Cheese Stuffed Figs

This has to be one of the most delicious ways to eat figs! I have been eating it all week for lunch and still had it for lunch today, it's just so simple and utterly scrumptious.

You could use any kind of cheese for this simple recipe whether it be goats' cheese or blue cheese or other. I love eating cheese and figs with nuts too - the crunch just adds that little something special. My favourites are hazelnuts or walnuts. However, given that I collected a whole pile of walnuts the other night with the dogs in tow, I think I'll be cracking walnuts for a long time yet!

Simple Cheese Stuffed Figs

  • 2 figs per person

  • A chunk of goats cheese or blue cheese per fig

  • 1 Tbspn runny honey or pure maple syrup*

  • 1 Tbspn balsamic vinegar*

  • 2 Tbspn Olive Oil*

  • Freshly cracked black pepper

  • Iodised sea salt

  • Small handful of hazelnuts or walnuts per person

*You may need more when serving larger numbers

  1. Pre-heat oven to 180°C. Place the figs in an oven–proof dish or on a baking tray lined with baking paper.

  2. Cut a cross in the top of each fig and place a chunk of cheese in each fig

  3. Drizzle over the honey, balsamic vinegar and olive oil and season with the salt and pepper.

  4. Scatter over the nuts and bake for ~10 minutes or until the figs are warm and the cheese is gooey.

  5. Serve with leafy greens such as rocket and fresh basil or parsley and a scattering of extra cheese if desired.
