Homemade Hot Cocoa
This warming cup of cocoa has been my favourite post-dinner delight of late. It's so simple and easy but gosh it's good! And good for you too. Filled with calcium, protein and antioxidants, this homemade cocoa is much better for you than a cafe bought hot-chocoolate which can be loaded with sugar. The trick is to blend the milk in a high-powered belnder or my beloved Nutribullet. This creates a beautiful cafe-like frothy top. I must say, hot cocoa is much more fun with a frothy top!
This is perfect for children & adults and makes a great snack or post-dinner treat for those dairy-free folk.
Homemade Hot Cocoa
Serves 1
Ingredients
150-200ml calcium-fortified soy milk (or cows milk, rice or nut milk)
1 heaped Tbspn cacao powder or good quality cocoa powder
Pinch cinnamon
Pinch vanilla powder (or vanilla extract)
Warm the milk on the stove (or in the microwave) until it's at a tempertaure you enjoy. I like mine slightly hot so I heat it a little longer.
Add the warmed milk to a blender or Nutribullet along with the cocao powder, cinnamon and vanilla.
Blend until the milk turns a chocolate colour and is nice and frothy!
Serve in a cup topped with a pinch of cinnamon, cocoa powder or vanilla powder.
Enjoy!
