Black Doris Plum & Banana Smoothie

Mum and dad have a bulging Black Doris Plum tree so besides eating them fresh and creating gloriously stained hands and fingers for the rest of the day, I’ve been enjoying them in this Plum & Lemon Loaf by Eat Well NZ and also in this simple yet utterly delicious smoothie.

Sadly our tree has now lost all of its fruit but luckily I pitted and froze some flesh for later use! If fresh plums aren’t available in your area, you could substitute them for canned plums in natural juice.

Black Doris Plum & Banana Smoothie – serves 1

  • 1 Tbspn black chia seeds soaked in ¾ cup of water for at least 30 mins or overnight

  • 1 frozen banana (sliced into rounds and frozen ahead of time)

  • 1 fresh Black Doris Plum, stone removed (or use canned plums in natural juice if fresh plums aren’t available)

  • 1 Tbspn peanut butter

  • 1 Tbspn coconut milk/cream

  • Pinch cinnamon

  • 1tsp of honey – for a sweeter smoothie if needed

  • 1 Tbspn toasted nuts or homemade muesli to garnish

  1. Place all of the ingredients except the nuts or muesli into a high-powdered blender or Nutri-bullet and blend until thick and creamy.

  2. Pour into a serving glass and top with your favourite nuts or homemade muesli if desired.

  3. Enjoy!
